I'm in the first few steps of my journey and it's proving to be alright, if a little scary. On teh day you sent your last message I was actually just asked to do a workshop! It'll be the first time since Flying Start where I'll have to plan my own workshop from scratch and my first time working with children with disabilities. Here's hoping it goes well!

With my own practice I'm actually finding it to be going ok at the moment. I'm not as well established as you are in the local arts scene but I do a few pieces every now and then. Now that my work and website is looking a little more polished I'm gonna approach some of other organisations, which is very tiring in itself!

I'll have some new work up on here in the coming weeks. Seems like ages since I did anything new!

My experience has been quite positive. I was really, really lucky to start with- quit my ESOL job and went freelance full time- made 5 cold calls and 3 were successful which enough to land me a fair bit of work.

Since then have been trying to network it and improve my reputation as a community musician. I've sorted most of my promotional material- leaflets, business cards etc and have been doing a fair bit of CPD.

The only problem is cultivating my own work- I can be lazy- but have been composing and practicing more.

I have signed up to so many blogs and have hunted for community artists- to no avail- so was good to find yours :)

How has your journey been so far?

Haha, no worries. It happens to the best of us ;-) In fact, I shall ask how your experience was an an emerging artist. I find myself always running around signing up to every mailing list and profile/portfolio website and just generally being overwhelmed! Was this similar to your own experience?

Oooh, and I've subscribed to yours too!

Hi Bobbie,

To take one meaning from your question, I found the course after rifling through the flyers in the Rep Theatre one summer afternoon in an attempt to find something to keep me busy!

Otherwise, the course was absolutely amazing. I only finished university last year and the course gave me a lot of direction. I'd done the Student Associates Scheme earlier, so I knew that I wanted to work with children/the community.

All's going well though, just starting out freelancing and starting to get my name known a bit. It's all a lot of hard work, but I'm enjoying it!

Hi Antonio,

I saw your blog and found it interesting since I completed a Flying Start course last year. Hope all is going well- free lancing can be hard work but it's good fun being your own boss.

How did you find the course?

The point is that work comes through instead of being veiled behind an over designed site.

A couple Indexhibit sites that were customized by users:

http://www.pupdesign.net/v5/
http://exporttoworld.plugimi.com/
http://www.falseone.org/

Anything is possible...the cms does not limit users.
