		<description>You&#039;ll have to hack about with the PHP a bit, customise a template and then use that as the template for the static page.

I think it&#039;s just a limitation of this (oldish) template on WP, I hacked about for about half an hour and got just about everything I wanted to do to work fine with a bit of elbow grease. (see my Links page for an example of what the template never intended me to do ;)
