There are artists out there using social media, but sometimes with an emphasis on the media rather than the social. A good example is here:

When I first (I’m a journo remember not and artist - not even in my opinion a ‘creative’) began podcasting in 2005 I only understood it as another way of sharing content. It took me time to understand the social side of the media. Now that is the most rewarding element for me.
