I’m going to be moving into exclusively using open source software to create artwork in the near future*. More on why once I get my head around some of the software.
*that is unless it’s completely necessary that I use a piece of commercial software e.g. GMIP doesn’t support CMYK, yet Photoshop does.

That is great. I really look forward to hearing more about your experiences with open source . I understand that unlike a lot of other areas some proprietary design software is still far in advance of open source. Hopefully we will see this gap narrow as more and more people use the available open source software.

I’ve recently been using Inkscape to create lots of my artwork. It is a great program but a little frustrating at times! Still, I’m always providing feedback and hopefully this’ll be taken on board. I think one of the main things that needs to happen is all of the open source creative applications, Inkscape, GIMP, Scribus etc, need to be treated as a suite in a similar way to Adobe CS. It’s always a bit disorientating having to learn three different ways of working and shortcut keys for each program. Maybe they could all share a similar UI too.
