Closing the gaps: 5G, immersive and new behaviours in hybrid environments

12/06/2019 @ 18:00 - 20:30 BST

Digital Catapult and the Open Data Institute (ODI) conclude a series of events that delve into the relationship between arts and technology, with an interactive workshop event exploring immersive (virtual, augmented and mixed reality) and future networks technologies (such as 5G and the internet of things).

One of the biggest changes 5G promises is for ultra low latency which could result in major breakthroughs for how technology shapes our lives, from how we consume social media to how we work and play through its speedier networks.

It brings major opportunities for experiential immersive, interactive and virtually augmented content, shifting our perceptions of the boundaries of art and entertainment, and raising questions about the relationships we have with our own bodies in digital space, as well as the built environment.

Closing the gaps invites artists, content makers and industry experts to respond to this evolution of technology and the role it will play in our lives, examining how the online and offline worlds are coming closer together and what social, philosophical, corporeal and emotional challenges, and benefits, arise.

The Hybrid Landscapes exhibition is curated and produced by Data as Culture at the ODI.
