Collections and Permissions

17/10/2020 @ 16:00 - 17:00 BST

Commissioned as part of Cut, Copy Remix, this talk explores the ways in which artists can explore the collections and the permissions that inform their use. For Cut Copy Remix, Black Hole Club in collaboration with Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery invited artists to explore the creative potential of Birmingham Museums Trust’s Digital Image Resource http://dams.birminghammuseums.org.uk. Birmingham Museums Trust is the only collection in the UK that makes all of its out-of-copyright artworks available for free under a Creative Commons Zero License (CC0).

The collection is one of the city’s greatest cultural assets and a priceless resource for learning, engagement and creativity. Over 3500 of these objects are now availableas free digital images, with more being added every week. Cut Copy Remix is an exhibition of the new work and ongoing research that responds to and reconfigures images from the Digital Image Resource.

Join Vivid Projects Director Yasmeen Baig-Clifford for the talk with artist and curator Antonio Roberts who is developing work with Vivid Projects informed by collections and Black Hole Club member Leanne O’Connor who is exploring the potential of Birmingham School of Arts slide collection as part of the Cut Copy Remix.

A link to join the talk online will be sent one hour before it commences.
