2011 Year in Review

2011 was probably one of the most exciting years in terms of my artistic development. Overall, it’s seen a lot of my work go out into the wild, rather than just sitting on a server or on my computer.

January

January was pretty slow and saw me mostly carrying on with my studies at Birmingham City University.

February

Although it was a slow month I did finally meet Rob Myers at the Furtherfield show opening in London. I was also asked to join BiLE as their visuals guy. After initially being hesitant, due to my lack of experience in performing live, I accepted the offer.

Destructural Video - Leeds International Film Festival 2011

Can the electronic stutters, crashes, errors and glitches that we encounter with technology in our day-to-day lives be considered beautiful in their own right? This programme of extraordinary video work showcases contemporary artists who exploit and explore the imperfections hidden in the signal/ data structures of moving image technology to striking effect. Recalling early video art experiments and key films from the Structural movement, these sometimes abstract but always emotional videos ultimately reveal the human qualities inherent in the technology we have created, electronic warts and all.
