Some of my Favourite Songs

2012

In February 2012 I made a 72-minute compilation CD that summarised my musical tastes. “Some of My Favourite Songs” is a series of images made by reinterpreting each of the 16 songs on the CD as images.

Each of the 16 images were made by taking an mp3 of each song and feeding it into a specially made program - built with Pure Data - that converts the mp3s binary data into an image. Unlike spectrograms and waveforms, this visual representation of the audio shares a lot with glitch art and captures the noisier and more chaotic nature of sounds.
