Algorave Bristol

The Jean Golding Institute at the University of Bristol has teamed up with a group of live coders to put together this exciting evening event.

“The scene at an algorave is often what you’d expect from any good techno night – a dark room, engaging visuals……a decent, bass-heavy speaker set-up, and lots of people ready to dance….. performers at algoraves respond to each other and the audience in real time, projecting the lines of code onto the walls as they type. lt’s coding as improvisation and experiment…..” – The Wire magazine

Algorave is a combination of ‘algorithms’ and ‘rave’, the opportunity to dance to alien rhythms and visuals, all created from code before your eyes. All code is projected onto walls so you will see what the performers are doing – taking the “black-boxing” out of electronic music. The Algorave scene is fast-growing reaching over 50 cities internationally over six years. Algorave champions female performers and is committed to maintaining an equal gender balance.

This Algorave will take place at The Island – a unique basement venue in an old police station including cells and an exercise yard. In this space you will dance to the best UK live-code performers and encounter algorithmic music and light installations within the space.
